Rooftops will have to be thoughtfully partitioned, with sunlight allocated in proper proportion to\u00a0roof gardens,\u00a0interior daylighting (skylights), photovoltaics, and\u00a0solar hot water (though increasingly efficient PV panels are making it less expensive to heat water with electricity).<\/p>\n<p>With this increase in attention, roofs will likely also become more common as extensions of living\u00a0space, with a\u00a0semi-isolation like that of\u00a0the\u00a0back yard\u2014refuges in plain sight.
