There’s a difficulty in designing one thing for\u00a0multiple locations, such as a bus shelter or a public toilet. You can’t design for context since the surrounding of each installation is unique. Whatever the design, it can only display the\u00a0unity of\u00a0its own\u00a0system.<\/p>\n

Too often, this frees\u00a0a designer to promulgate his particular style\u00a0at the expense of all else.<\/p>\n

Two\u00a0such ubiquitous aliens pepper the sidewalks of San Francisco. The quaint-historical public toilets installed by JCDecaux look downright\u00a0Disneyesque amid\u00a0downtown’s\u00a0modern office blocks. And the MUNI shelters of Lundberg Design’s Erector-Set aesthetic\u00a0look especially graceless amongst\u00a0the city’s myriad historical districts.
